&lt;p&gt;As a Linux veteran, I think Ubuntu is over-hyped.  Every time I though I should give Ubuntu a try (the most recent one being 8.04.1), I always came back disappointed, and back to SuSE.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;However, there is one distro that IMO has the potential of replacing SuSE, and it is OpenSolaris.  Of course, the opinion will differ depending on one&#039;s particular needs.&lt;/p&gt;
